At Dominion Energy, we are committed to continually reviewing and analyzing our energy infrastructure to provide the most safe and reliable electric service. This project rebuilt an existing 230 kilovolt (kV) electric transmission line from Greensville County, Virginia near Emporia to Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
This transmission line is 18 miles long and several miles west of Interstate 95, while paralleling the line into North Carolina.
The project was necessary to replace aging infrastructure. After nearly five decades of service, the structures and related components were at the end of their service life and needed to be replaced to maintain reliability for our customers. The project began in 2022 as Line 2201 from Clubhouse to Dry Bread Substation, and then transitioned to Line 254 from Dry Bread to Lakeview Substation. Construction ended on schedule in late 2023. Along the project route, the new structures are similar in height and appearance to the original structures.
