Mecklenburg County has been successful in diversifying its economic prospects and growing new industries in the county. To keep up with the economic developments and increased electrical demands, we are building two new electric transmission lines parallel to one another on shared right of way into the South Hill/La Crosse areas, as well as three new substations in South Hill/La Crosse. A transmission line loop, referred to as the interconnect route, will be built between the three new substations.
Unity Substation, located in Lunenburg County, will be constructed as part of the South Hill Project. This project will bolster reliability, address the energy needs of the region, and continue our commitment to providing safe, reliable electricity to our neighbors.
Project construction began in early 2024. More detailed construction timelines are available in the timeline section of the page.
