Dominion Energy is leading the way in the transition to cleaner energy sources. As part of this transition, we are safely and responsibly monitoring coal ash ponds and landfills using the best science and engineering possible.
We’ve designed a plan - which goes above and beyond U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Virginia Department of Environmental Quality regulations - to clean up the coal ash ponds. We are using a multi-stage water treatment and filtration process that incorporates state-of-the-art science and engineering and independent, third-party verification. Water is tested multiple times before it ever touches the river, ensuring safety for people, wildlife and our environment.
We began treating, testing and releasing water from ash ponds at Bremo Power Station in April 2016, at Possum Point Power Station in May 2016 and at Chesterfield Power Station in November 2017.
As of October 2019, we have paused testing and are no longer posting results following the passage of Senate Bill (SB) 807.
Groundwater monitoring continues around our coal ash ponds and landfills.
The posting of weekly water testing results will discontinue until the discharge of ash contact water resumes at each power station. Below you will find the testing results from previous years.
