Frequently Asked Questions

A planned outage is when we temporarily turn off power for scheduled work like maintenance or upgrades, and you’re notified ahead of time. An unplanned outage happens unexpectedly due to events like storms or accidents, with no warning. Our crews work to restore power as safely and quickly as possible in both cases.

Providing reliable and affordable energy is a top priority. To achieve this, dedicated crews work behind the scenes on essential tasks such as tree trimming, grid hardening, preventative maintenance, equipment upgrades, placing lines underground, and exchanging meters. These efforts ensure that reliable energy access is as easy as plugging in or switching on, wherever you are and whenever you need it.

Planned outages are typically scheduled so that our crews can safely make system upgrades. This may include upgrades to increase reliability, maintenance to replace aging or damaged equipment, tree trimming or other work to help support future growth in the area. Like giving your car a tune-up, it helps prevent problems down the road.

You will be notified in advance to give you time to prepare for a planned power outage. You may receive a postcard or an email. If you’re interested in receiving reminders, provide your email and mobile number or make sure your contact information is correct on your account.

  • If someone in your home requires electricity for medical equipment, please be sure to have a backup plan in case you need an alternate location with power.
  • Turn off or disconnect any appliances, equipment, or electronics you were using when the power went out.
  • Keep your mobile phone and other devices fully charged.
  • Keep freezers and refrigerators closed as long as possible to preserve the food inside.
  • After the outage, please wait a few minutes before turning on electronics. This will help eliminate problems that could occur if there's a surge in demand immediately after power is restored.
