Dominion Energy is making it easier and more affordable for customers to install and use public charging. Learn more about the types of public charging and programs available below.
There are over 1,000 public charging stations in Virginia.
Level 2 charging is the most common type of public charging. Level 2 chargers typically deliver 20 to 60 miles of range per hour of charging. The type of charging is ideal for places where drivers will spend an hour or more such as shopping centers, parking areas, workplaces, and multifamily communities like apartments and condos.

DCFC is very high-powered charging that can charge EV batteries up to 80% in less than 30 minutes. DCFC is typically found along interstates and highways and makes it easy to take your EV on road trips.
We know DCFC can require significant electrical capacity, so we've created an EV hosting capacity tool to help make it easier for public charging networks to site and install their infrastructure. Once you have a site in mind, check out our EV Fast Charging Service Requirements guide to expedite the utility design and construction process. For an estimated timeline on EV work requests, view our High Level EV Timeline.
If you live in an apartment or condominium, our multi-family charging guide provides information about installing charging stations. Our Level 2 Charging Program also provides a turnkey solution for EV charging at multi-family locations.
Dominion Energy's new Level 2 Charging Program provides a turn-key solution for level 2 EV charging infrastructure. Through the program, we will install and maintain level 2 charging stations for your business, parking area, or multi-family community. The program provides incentives for the EV charging station make-ready and on-bill payment options for the remaining costs.
