Committed to Helping the Community

EnergyShare is our year-round assistance program that has been helping qualified customers with energy bill payment assistance since 1982.

In recent years, we’ve increased funding and have expanded the program to include free home energy assessments and energy efficiency upgrades for customers approved for bill assistance. Upgrades funded by EnergyShare provide sustainable energy bill savings through energy conservation. For more information, check out the EnergyShare brochure (also view the Spanish, Chinese, Korean, or Vietnamese versions).

How Does it Work?

EnergyShare provides assistance to customers in two different ways:

1. Bill Payment Assistance

EnergyShare is a crisis program of last resort that helps pay energy bills for any type of heating and cooling source (wood, oil, natural gas, propane, kerosene, electric) for those who qualify. EnergyShare is not income based so any customer in crisis is eligible to apply.

Customer applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis to determine eligibility. If approved, the benefit is paid directly to the customer’s energy provider.

Individuals 60 and older may be eligible for additional assistance. Military veterans and those individuals living with disabilities may qualify for an additional $500 benefit if participating in the voucher programs of the Department of Veteran Services or the Centers for Independent Living.

  Heating Cooling
Dates Oct. 1 - May 31 June 1 - Sept. 30
Benefit Amount $600 $300

2. Weatherization

Customers who receive EnergyShare bill payment assistance are eligible to receive a free home energy assessment and the installation of free energy efficiency upgrades to help save on their energy costs.

The safety and well-being of our customers and weatherization partners is paramount. Enhanced safety measures have been put in place and projects are being scheduled at the discretion of the weatherization partners and our customers.

Upgrades may include*:

  • LED lighting
  • Low-flow shower heads
  • Faucet aerators
  • Attic/floor insulation
  • Hot water pipe wrap insulation
  • Hot water heater tank wrap
  • Heat pump tune-up
  • A/C tune-up
  • Air and duct sealing
  • ENERGY STAR refrigerator replacement
  • High efficiency central furnace fan motor replacement

*Installed measures are based on observations made during the home energy audit

Senior Cool Care

Senior Cool Care is a public-private partnership sponsored by Dominion Energy and administered by the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services that helps low-income older citizens in Virginia keep cool during summer months.

The program provides one free single-room air conditioner to elderly Virginians who live within Dominion Energy’s service area and who meet eligibility requirements. Local Area Agencies on Aging administer Senior Cool Care by screening applicants and distributing air conditioners. A list of participating agencies is available by contacting the Virginia Department for the Aging at 1-800-552-3402.
