Data allows our engineers to ensure our solar sites are operating efficiently.
This article is about:
Anjali Arora is an engineer that uses data to ensure that our solar sites are generating energy reliably and efficiently.Rockstar, writer, lawyer – these are the career paths Anjali Arora envisioned for herself as a child. But, as she grew older, she came to the realize that a career in STEM was the path she wanted to take.
Today, Anjali works as an engineer, analyzing data to ensure our solar sites are operating as efficiently as possible.
Sensors placed on equipment at our solar sites track data in real time, giving our engineers valuable insights, like how sunny it is at a particular site and, therefore, how much energy is being generated. When aggregated, the data is used to make adjustments on the ground.
Anjali then works with ground technicians that ensure our solar projects are generating energy for our customers in both a reliable and efficient way. As we continue to incorporate more clean energy into the electrical grid, through additional solar projects and our Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project, the next generation of engineers will be critical to that expansion.
While attending Duke University, Anjali wasn’t considering a career in energy. She originally pursued a degree in biomedical engineering before applying to the Dominion Energy Diversity Student Conference on a whim, hoping to learn more about renewable energy and the energy industry in general.
The conference which is gives students an opportunity to learn what a career in energy would look like, helped her see the potential in a career in energy.
Anjali’s conference experience turned into an internship and, after graduation, a full-time job with the company.
This passion and infectious energy will help drive our ambitious vision forward, keeping us on track for our goal of 16,100 megawatts of solar under development or in operation by 2035, enough to power more than 4 million homes.
