Dominion Energy's Celebration of Energy Action Month
Starting with the company more than 15 years ago, Gisella Baez says her focus has always been on serving the customer. On most days, she is out in the community performing home energy check-ups, a no-charge consultation that provides customers with practical solutions designed to increase efficiency around the home and save on monthly energy bills.

Diversity within Dominion Energy
For Gisella Baez, great customer service is a universal language.
Baez, a bilingual energy conservation representative, grew up in New York with a family rich in Dominican and Puerto Rican culture. As a child, she witnessed firsthand the burdens that can weigh on some communities of color and first-generation Americans.
“My mother doesn’t speak any English. I’ve been that child who reads the letter in the mail and translates for her mom,” Baez said.
She recalls the time she was the translator at school meetings for both her teacher and mother, adding to the importance of diversity in the company.
“Having diversity in the company is great because we can communicate with the community one-on-one,” Baez said.
Baez believes it is important that Dominion Energy South Carolina’s employees reflect the communities they serve as the Latino customer population continues to grow.
“I think it makes them feel great. They have someone that understands and comprehends what they are trying to communicate,” she said.

According to recent census , Hispanic households earn about half as much as white households on average and possess only about 15 to 20% as much net wealth. That’s where Baez and her team come in to help.
“Our team is very diverse I’ve always felt very comfortable in where I’ve been with the company,” Baez said.>
She’s inspired to help others and is happy to work for a company that allows her to do just that. She also hopes awareness of energy conservation services provided by Dominion Energy will continue to grow.
“I really love and enjoy the interaction with customers, and that’s why I moved to this department,” she said. “We’re making a difference for our customers and having a positive impact on our community”
Dominion Energy is committed to cultivating a work environment where all employees have the opportunity to demonstrate their different talents and perspectives and are empowered to realize their true potential.
