Dominion Energy and the Latin American Chamber of Commerce of Charlotte (LACCC) partnered to sponsor a meal giveaway for families in need with support from the Gastonia Honey Hunters and the City of Gastonia.
“There's still a lot of people struggling with the pandemic and we did this meal giveaway as a way to let those folks know that the members of their community really care about them and want to help them get through this,” said Julie Roper, the Economic Development and Local Government Manager for Dominion Energy North Carolina. Roper spearheaded the event in collaboration with the LACCC.
Meals were distributed drive-thru style by Dominion Energy employees, city and LACCC volunteers as well as Honey Hunters players at CaroMont Health Park, the home of the newly formed minor league baseball team.

In addition to providing 2,000 meals to Gaston County families facing financial and other hardships, the event served to support six locally owned Hispanic restaurants.
“We buy the meals from the restaurants then the restaurants come and deliver the meals to the community so it's a win-win,” said Gris Bailey, the President & CEO of the Latin American Chamber of Commerce.
Azteca Gastonia, Mamacitas Food Truck, Big Easy Express, Los Arcos Gastonia, La Fuente Bar & Grill and El Guanaco Express prepared the meals onsite so that they could be served hot to attendees.
