Electric Projects

Transmission lines

Dominion Energy has a variety of unique projects and initiatives involving the moving and delivering of electricity.

Power Line Projects
Electricity from our power stations moves across 6,600 miles of transmission lines. We plan to meet the increased demand for electricity in Virginia and North Carolina through  improvements to the electric transmission and distribution system.

Smart Meter Upgrades
We are using smart meters, communications and information technology infrastructure to promote energy conservation and environmental responsibility, and improve customer service and utility operations.

Strategic Underground Program
In an effort to relocate the most outage-prone lines in our Virginia service area, certain overhead electric distribution lines and equipment are being placed underground.

Unmanned Aerial Inspections
We use vendors that have completed the required FAA authorizations to inspect transmission lines and towers with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, commonly known as drones.

What's Next: Transforming the Energy Grid
We’re completely transforming our power grid and the way we think about energy. For our customers, that means a smart grid that integrates renewables seamlessly, fewer and shorter outages, more tools to track energy usage, and a stronger, more reliable energy grid.
