This project involves construction and operation of a natural gas pipeline as well as modification of compression facilities.
Dominion Energy Transmission, Inc.'s (Dominion Energy) Supply Header Project (SHP) includes approximately 37.5 miles of natural gas pipeline, along existing pipeline rights of way, and modifications to existing compression facilities in West Virginia and Pennsylvania. SHP will provide natural gas supplies to various customers, allowing the transport of natural gas from supply areas in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia to market areas in Virginia and North Carolina.
Construction Update – December 2018
On December 7, 2018, the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court issued a ruling that reverses a key federal approval for the Supply Header Project. The company strongly disagrees with the court’s ruling, but has voluntarily stopped construction across Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Stabilization activities will continue to protect the safety of the public and the environment.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is the lead federal agency responsible for overseeing the environmental review and approval process for the Supply Header Project.
In coordination with many local, state and federal agencies, the FERC thoroughly reviewed the project for more than three years to ensure protection of the environment, landowners and public safety. After this exhaustive review process, the FERC approved the project in late 2017, concluding that it will serve a vital public need and will be built with minimal impacts to the environment.
The pipeline and related facilities will be designed, constructed, operated and maintained in accordance with FERC and U.S. Department of Transportation standards, and all other applicable regulations, standards and guidelines for safety.
All regulatory filings for the SHP project can be found on the FERC website.
Dominion Energy is committed to working collaboratively with both landowners and stakeholders throughout the planning, construction and operation processes.
The pipeline and related facilities will be designed, constructed, operated and maintained in accordance with FERC and U.S. Department of Transportation standards, and all other applicable regulations, standards and guidelines for safety.
