Natural gas safety and energy efficiency tips during winter weather.As we all continue to watch the winter weather around the country, Dominion Energy is providing tips to help customers be energy efficient and safe while continuing to enjoy the warmth, comfort and reliability of natural gas.
Helpful tips to keep your energy bill low while staying warm this winter.

Set the thermostat to a comfortable 68 degrees during the day and lower while sleeping or when away from home. A programmable or smart thermostat can automatically lower the temperature to maximize savings.

Consider wearing comfortable, cozy clothing and extra layers for additional warmth.

Check doors and windows for drafts. Caulk around windows and replace old weather stripping around doors to keep cold air out.
Have carbon monoxide detectors on every level of your home and within ten feet of any sleeping areas. Just as you do with smoke detectors, check and replace batteries in CO detectors, too.
If there is an odor of natural gas in or around the premises, evacuate and immediately call 911 and us from a safe place. Dominion Energy considers it an emergency if customers smell an odor of gas or if none of their natural gas appliances are working.
