Hispanic Woman-Owned Business Creates Jobs for Rural Community

A small, Hispanic, woman-owned information technology (IT) consulting firm in Abingdon, Va., is providing employment by investing in the talents and resources that are abundant in Virginia’s rural communities. Their partnership with Dominion Energy has helped make that possible.

“What was happening here is that there was a lot of talent, but the major problem is that a lot of the college graduates had to leave the area because there were no jobs in the area, particularly in IT,” says Wendy Marquez, CEO. “We thought that it could be an opportunity for us to bring and open a technology company here.”
"The reason why we approached Dominion is because we were perfectly aligned,” says Marquez. “We were driven by the fact that what we were going to be able to do was going to transform the region.”
Wize Solutions is focused on providing cloud-based and locally hosted systems, engineering, robotic process automation (RPA) and more. Wize Solutions was able to start exploring RPA because of a project request from Dominion Energy.
RPA is a form of business-process automation that allows one to define instructions for a robot, or bots, to perform. RPA is a game changer for organizations because it boosts efficiency; a task that would take someone two weeks can now be accomplished in a few days. Wize Solution’s RPA developers utilize an agile-based methodology to design, develop, test, and deploy bots to automate these processes.
Their RPA team that started with a single staffer dedicated to Dominion Energy, has since grown to 10 people. Wize Solutions is now the premiere RPA provider in Virginia.
